Explosion protection document

RD 681/2003 and RD 400/1996, replaced by RD 144/2016, oblige all companies with flammable substances to:

  • Evaluate risks
  • Adopt preventive measures
  • It even directly marks certain technical requirements:
    • Use of antistatic footwear and clothing
    • Use of equipment with Eex marking
    • Suitable work equipment
    • Use of explosimeters (as appropriate)

All this study and the resulting measures will form the Explosion Protection Document.
It is also necessary to consider the whole set of regulations and UNE standards that directly affect it: REBT (ITC BT-29), UNE 202007/2006, UNE-EN 60079-10-1/2016, UNE 60079-10- 2/2016.

The analysis of the SDS of the products used will serve to determine the volumes of vapors or dust in suspension, which can potentially be explosive, and the most appropriate measures to minimize the risk.

Having an updated explosion protection document is the best way to reduce risks from handling flammable and/or explosive products, whether they are liquids or solids.
All equipment in Atex areas must be “inspected” every three years (UNE 60079-17). In addition, the explosion protection document must be prepared before the low voltage project is prepared.
